75th Republic Day Parade: A symphony of women’s strength, cultural heritage and global diplomacy (2024)

The parade will open with a groundbreaking performance by 100 women artists, showcasing their musical prowess with Indian instruments.

The 75th Republic Day Parade, on January 26, 2024, at Kartavya Path, promises to be a remarkable event with its women-centric themes of ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka.’

In a press conference on Jan 19, 2024, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane unveiled the details, emphasizing the significant role that women will play in this year’s celebration.

The parade will open with a groundbreaking performance by 100 women artists, showcasing their musical prowess with Indian instruments. This marks a departure from the traditional parade opening, infusing a fresh and vibrant spirit into the festivities. The choice of ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka’ as themes aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of India as a nurturing mother of democracy.

A notable highlight of the 75th Republic Day Parade is the all-women Tri-Service contingent, a first in the history of Republic Day celebrations. Adding to this, contingents from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will also feature women personnel, making it a parade that truly celebrates and represents the strength and capabilities of Indian women. Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane expressed, “The best representation of women will be seen in this year’s Republic Day parade.”

Scheduled to commence at 10:30 AM and run for an approximate duration of 90 minutes, the parade will unfold at Kartavya Path. With a seating capacity of 77,000, out of which 42,000 seats are reserved for the general public, the event is expected to draw a diverse and enthusiastic audience.

French President Emmanuel Macron has been honoured as the Chief Guest for this grand celebration, reflecting the diplomatic ties between India and France. Additionally, around 13,000 Special Guests have been invited to witness the parade, embodying the government’s vision of Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation). These special guests, drawn from various fields, include achievers and contributors from diverse sectors, ranging from performers to beneficiaries of government schemes.

The tableaux, a visual spectacle showcasing the cultural diversity of India, will feature a total of 25 entries, including 16 States/Union Territories and nine Ministries/Departments. To address concerns of representation, the Ministry of Defence has introduced a unique three-year roll-over plan, ensuring equitable participation on a rotational basis for all states and UTs.

An intriguing addition to the parade is the ‘Anant Sutra – The Endless Thread’ textile installation by the Ministry of Culture. Positioned behind the spectators, this installation pays tribute to the timeless Indian saree. Featuring nearly 1,900 sarees and drapes from every corner of the country, it serves as a visually stunning exhibit of India’s weaving and embroidery arts. QR codes on the installation offer spectators the opportunity to delve deeper into the details of each piece.

In commemoration of the 75th year of the Republic, the Ministry of Defence will release a special Commemorative Coin and Commemorative Stamp during the celebrations, adding a touch of historic significance to the occasion.

The National School Band Competition, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, saw the participation of 486 school bands from 30 different States/UTs. Sixteen selected bands will perform during the Republic Day event, fostering feelings of patriotism and pride among school children.

The third edition of Vande Bharatam dance competition, involving groups of women artists, promises a captivating performance at Kartavya Path. Approximately 200 women artists will showcase their talent in front of the Saluting Dais, contributing to the overall cultural richness of the parade.

Project Veer Gatha 3.0, aimed at inspiring and spreading awareness among children about the gallant deeds and sacrifices of the Armed Forces, witnessed an impressive participation of 1.36 crore students from 2.42 lakh schools pan-India. The ‘Super-100’ winners will be felicitated by the Raksha Mantri in New Delhi on January 25, 2024. This initiative seeks to instill a sense of pride and appreciation for the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces.

‘Bharat Parv,’ organized by the Ministry of Tourism at the Red Fort from January 23-31, 2024, is set to showcase Republic Day Tableaux, Military Band performances, cultural events, Crafts Bazaar, and a diverse range of cuisines. Reflecting the ‘Jan Bhagidari’ theme, this event aims to engage people from all walks of life.

Parakram Diwas, organized by the Ministry of Culture at Red Fort on January 23, 2024, will focus on commemorating Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The event is expected to be a grand spectacle with 3-D projection mapping, light & sound shows, and plays/dance performances, creating a vibrant tribute to the iconic leader.

E-invitations have been a significant aspect of the preparations, allowing secure and paperless issuance of invitations to various dignitaries. The dedicated portalwww.e-invitation.mod.gov.inhas facilitated this process, ensuring the inclusion of people from all parts of the country in this national event.
