I’ve got “a thing” for hot dips. My Cream Cheese Sausage Dip is on repeat during the holidays, and Buffalo Chicken Dip is a must on weekends during football season.

To add to my list of recipes for game day, I’m adding Beer Cheese Dip to the lineup!

Best Beer For Beer Cheese Dip

Light Beers: Light Beers are the most commonly used for this cheesy dip. They impart a more light flavor to the dip.

Dark Beers: When using darker beers in your dip, you will have a darker and richer flavor.

Ingredients For Beer Cheese Dip

Easy Crock Pot Beer Cheese Recipe (3)
  • Cream cheese at room temperature and shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
  • Beer or your favorite lager.
  • Dijon mustard, garlic powder, Kosher salt, and red pepper flakes for flavor.
  • Fresh green onions or chives for garnish if you want.

Success Tip:

Pre-shredded cheeses have additives that keep them from sticking in the bag, so grate your own cheese for the best flavor and texture.

How To Make Beer Cheese Dip In The Crock Pot

  1. Add all ingredients to the pot of the Crock Pot. Place lid on the pot and set heat to HIGH and time for 1 hour. Stir ingredients every 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  2. Taste and add more salt or red pepper if needed. Sprinkle on chopped green onion if desired.
  3. Serve warm dip with pretzels, kettle chips, grilled sausages, and veggies.

Variations And Substitutions For This Recipe

This is a fun recipe to make your own. Here are a few ideas:

  • My recipe calls for sharp cheddar cheese, but you can easily change it with other shredded cheese. Add Pepper Jack for a bit of spice or smoked Gouda for deep flavor. Mozzarella and Gruyère are also great cheeses for this recipe.
  • Cooked, crumbled bacon would be outstanding. You could also add in cooked breakfast sausage or seasoned ground beef for a heartier dip.

How Do You Keep Cheese Dip From Burning In The Slow Cooker?

The best way to keep the cheese dip from burning is to stir it often. Once the cheese has melted in the crock pot, turning the heat to the “keep warm” setting is best.

What To Serve With Beer Cheese Sauce

Beer Cheese Dip is a fabulous warm appetizer to serve at parties. With all the vibes of cheese fondue, you can get creative with dippers and sides. Some of my favorites are:

  • Beer cheese for pretzels is a classic match-up!
  • Kettle chips, spicy ranch crackers, and tortilla chips.
  • Veggies like broccoli, carrots, celery, or cauliflower.
  • Grilled kielbasa or Air Fryer Hot Dogs.

Dip was great, but there were tiny chunks of cream cheese in mind. What did I do wrong?

Sometimes I use a whisk to help blend the cream cheese into the dip.
      Hope this helps,

I’d like to give this a try, but have a question. Could I use non-alcoholic beer? If not, it will be just for my husband’s (and mine!) enjoyment. Thank you.

      Hey there Mary!
Thank you so much for your interest in this recipe, it’s super easy to make so I think you’re really going to love it! You can absolutely substitute in a non-alcoholic beer, but I will say that the alcohol cooks off as the Beer Cheese Dip slow cooks, so it’s completely kid-friendly if you were hoping to make it for a younger crowd as well. Let me know how everything turns out if you give it a try, I’d love to hear what y’all think, I hope you enjoy!
