Maryland's very first tulip festival open this weekend (2024)

WE WANTED TO BRING SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO CARROLL COUNTY. TULIPS IS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE. 100,000 ON A LITTLE OVER AN ACRE AT LOCAL HOMESTEAD PRODUCTS IN NEW WINDSOR. AND THIS WEEKEND, THEY’RE HOSTING MARYLAND’S FIRST EVER TULIP FESTIVAL. EVERYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF REDS, PINKS, YELLOWS, EVERY COLOR UNDER THE SUN. WE’RE ABOUT GOING TO BE AT PEAK BLOOM BY THIS WEEKEND. LOCAL HOMESTEAD PRODUCTS PARTNERED WITH OLD LINE FLOWER COMPANY TO CREATE THE EVENT THEY ACTUALLY STARTED. PICK YOUR OWN TULIPS JUST A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. YOUR TICKET COMES WITH SIX, BUT YOU CAN PICK AS MANY AS YOU WANT. IF YOU WANT TO GO HOME WITH A THOUSAND TULIPS, WE’RE THE PLACE TO COME. BUT ANY TULIP OVER THIS IS SIX THAT COME WITH YOUR TICKET IS A DOLLAR A PIECE. WE’VE GOT FOOD TRUCKS. WE’VE GOT SOME CRAFT VENDORS AND PROPS IN THE FIELD FOR SELFIE STATIONS TO BE ABLE TO TAKE SOME PICS AND MAKE SOME MEMORIES. SO WHEN YOU COME OUT TO THE FIELD, YOU’RE NOT GOING TO CUT YOUR TULIPS. YOU’RE ACTUALLY GOING TO PULL THEM. AND JEN, YOU TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO DO THAT. YEAH, YEAH, WE LIKE YOU GUYS TO GET THE EXTRA STEM LENGTH. SO BASICALLY IF YOU WANT TO, YOU JUST KIND OF GRIP AT THE BOTTOM THERE OKAY. AND THEN YOU JUST PULL UP STRAIGHT UP OKAY. AND IF YOU’RE PATIENT OH. OH I WAS IMPATIENT. BUT LOOK AT THAT. THAT’S GREAT. THERE YOU GO. YOU CAN BUY TICKETS ONLINE OR AT THE MARKET. AND YOU CAN STAY AS LONG AS YOU’D LIKE TO VISIT WITH THE ANIMALS OR PLAY AT THE PLAYGROUND. BUT IF YOU WANT THE TULIPS, PICK YOUR OWN IS ONLY FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKENDS. YOU DON’T GET THE CHANCE TO SEE 100,000 TULIPS IN ONE SPOT VERY OFTEN. AND NOW IT’S IN OUR OWN

The same people who brought you "Christmas in the Corn" are hosting Maryland's very first tulip festival.The Maryland Tulip Festival features some 100,000 tulips as far as the eye can see at Local Homestead Products in New Windsor."We wanted to bring something different to Carroll County," said Trevor Hoff, with Local Homestead Products.Local Homestead Products partnered with Old Line Flower Co., which started "pick your own tulips" a couple of years ago, to create the event."(We'll have) everything you can think of — reds, pinks, yellow — every color under the sun," said Jen Dueck, from Old Line Flower Co. "We're about going to be at peak bloom by this weekend."Each ticket comes with six tulips, but if you want more, they're $1 apiece."Your ticket comes with six (tulip stems), but you could pick as many as you want. If you want to go home with 1,000 tulips, you know the place to come," Hoff said.The event also features food and more."We've got food trucks, we have craft vendors and props in the field for selfie stations," Hoff said."(You'll) be able to take some pics and make some memories," Dueck said.When people come out to the field, they're not going to cut the tulips; they are actually going to pull them, and there will be people to teach people how to do that."Yes, we like people to get the extra stem, so basically, if you want to, you just grab the bottom, and you just pull straight up," Dueck said.Tickets are available online or at the market, and people can stay as long as they like to visit the animals and play at the playground. But if they want the tulips, they can pick their own for only the next two weekends."You don't get a chance to see 100,000 tulips in one spot very often, and now it's in our own backyard," Hoff said.Tickets can be purchased online here.
