It has been a lifetime of service to osteopathic medicine and graduate medical education for Lisa Nash, DO, MS-HPEd, FAAFP, and that remarkable career was honored by the Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators as she received their 2024 Special Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Educating Leaders 2024 annual conference.

Dr. Lisa Nash, the acting dean and senior associate dean for graduate medical education at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth’s Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, is only the 16th recipient of the award, which is AOGME’s highest honor and not awarded each year.

“This special recognition was such a wonderful surprise and honor,” said Nash. “It has absolutely been my pleasure to work with such an amazing group of AOGME colleagues over the years. Together we’ve done important and difficult work in the growth of GME across the country, led the transition from AOA accreditation to ‘single GME’ within ACGME, and navigated the evolution and integration of AODME into AACOM as AOGME. Change is not necessarily my favorite thing, and we’ve successfully accomplished a lot of it. Thank you so much for the privilege of working on these hard and important challenges and for the honor of being recognized for my part.”

Nash was chosen by the AOGME Board for having shown “exemplary leadership and having made exceptional contributions to the osteopathic profession and osteopathic medical education and over the years. She has been instrumental in advancing the mission and purposes of AOGME and improving the quality of osteopathic medical education.”

The award recognizes individuals who have been instrumental in advancing the mission and purposes of AOGME through loyal and long-term meritorious service to the profession. Nash is a 1991 graduate of TCOM and returned to the school in 2010.

She is responsible for accreditation of graduate medical education programs affiliated with TCOM, oversight of TCOM-sponsored GME programs and the growth and development of new programs and faculty development for GME. Dr. also oversees the Graduate Academic Medicine fellowship and the Office of Medical Student Success.

She received her Master of Science in Health Professions Education from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for the Health Professions in Boston and her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in chemistry from Texas Christian University.

Nash is Board Certified in Family Practice by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians, she is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a Harvard Macy Scholar.

“Dr. Nash is a committed osteopathic educator and has devoted her whole career to support osteopathic education both at a medical school level and a graduate medical education level,” said Sandra Snyder, DO, AOGME chair. “She always views things with an osteopathic lens, and I have had the privilege to work with her over the last 10 years.”
