DescriptionGeneral Virtual School Para Job Description:Position Function: The General Virtual Para will report to the Virtual School Principal and assist with coordinating students’ daily behavior and social-emotional regulation, relationship building, and problem-solving. at the high school level, the para will support graduation efforts. Responsible for modeling and supporting SECD and Positive Behavior Supports in their building. This para will prioritize supporting the students who are credit deficient in high school to develop, implement, and progress monitor the status of these students through virtual, on-campus, and home visits. The position focuses on student growth, both academic and behaviorally, and serving the whole child through communication with staff about student needs, hosting small group discussions with students, modeling and promoting professional learning, and providing updates to administration and CST on student needs.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group sessions aligned with the Restorative Practices model to assist in modifying and changing behavioral choices.
- Provide social and emotional support to students that allows them to enhance their development both personally and academically.
- Provides behavioral support using evidence-based strategies to meet the goals of the school-wide program and comprehensive school reform.
- Model SECD and positive behavior support while working directly with students.
- Collaborate with teachers, CST, counselor, SLAs, and building administrator on developing academic, behavioral, and social emotional plans to put in place for individual students.
- Assist in identifying, acquiring, and organizing available resources for students.
- Identify and communicate with classroom teachers effective behavioral strategies to meet the educational and social/emotional needs of the students.
- Analyze behavior, academic, and social-emotional data.
- Identify and implement strategies and resources to address individual student needs.
- Collect data to monitor and report students’ progress in all areas—academic, behavioral, and social-emotional.
- Work with students who are not on track to graduation.
- Collaborate with the Principal, Child Study Team Members, and classroom teachers as part of the Individual Problem-Solving Process and/or individualized virtual education plan.
- Serve as a consultant to administration, teachers, and families.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the school-wide behavior development program and increase student achievement.
- Must be able to work directly with students.
- Must collaborate with teachers and building administration.
Equipment: Must be able to prove—through certification or interview process— advanced Office365 skills. Applicants who cannot provide evidence of advanced technology skills during the interview process will not be considered.
Travel: Travel is required, and mileage will be approved and paid for according to district policy.
Physical And Mental Demands
- Must be able to walk long distances
- Respond rapidly in emergency situations
- Stand for long periods of time
- Bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps, reach overhead, lift, push, pull up to 20 pounds or more with assistance
- Work five days a week, up to seven hours or more per day, or as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Background knowledge and experience reading transcripts
- Strong foundation in graduation requirements of KSDE and USD 259 policy
- Advanced computer/technology skills, specifically Office 365 Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and Teams
- Familiar with district standards and assessments
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Exhibit a professional manner to all customers
- Ability to prioritize and organize
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks
- Ability to change assignments on short notice
- Ability to perform under deadline and work in a calm and efficient manner
- Ability to work in a positive and cooperative manner with others in the workplace
QualificationsInterrelations:
- Heavy contact with staff and students
- Will be working with a diverse population in a k-12 virtual school setting requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
- Must exhibit a professional manner and maintain a positive attitude with all students and colleagues
Employee Punctuality And Appearance
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or school administrator
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Qualification Profile
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
- Must pass the Para PD Now Test
- Associate's Degree preferred
- At least 2 years of experience in a virtual school environment
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
