two books of a Punk Rock and the Hell Am I Doing Here: The 100 Shirt is well versed in the ways of literature and publishing By creating a program that asked students to write books about their community they fostered writers while having the students document the cul ture of their community Although Breunlin and Himelstein set high standards for the work they found themselves overwhelmed by praising the work The Neighborhood Story Project has already garnered national attention including that of Weekly Accounts of growing up in an urban environment have long been amainstay in the literary world But what distinguishes the books in The Neighborhood Story Project is their immedia cy Many of the classics in the genre such as Richard and Louis My Life in New were written decades after the events they recount and are affected by the subsequent experi ences and the challenge of remembering just how events unfolded But because the McDonogh students wrote about the trials of adolescence and the challenges of living in the inner city as they hap pened they have been able to produce something truly spe cial accounts of their lives as they see them now rather than they will remember them in the future Breunlin and Himelstein drew on a variety of sources for inspiration They looked into 826 Valencia writer and editor Dave writing outreach program based in San rancisco and New York and had the students read an account of life in inner city Chicago written by two teens in conjunction with a National Public Radio produc er GONZALES A Louisiana congressman Sugar Cane League said passage of CATA is telling residents to push their congressional means that Central American countries which can produce sugar much cheaper than American producers because of a lack of laws regulating child labor could flood the sugar market with 15 million pounds of sugar a year The resulting glut of sugar and lower prices could devastate such sugar producing states as Louisiana lorida and Hawaii Melancon said CATA backers contend the amount of tariff free sugar that would be allowed in the United States would not have a major effect on the domestic sugarindustry Address:
